While Waterlane Boat House requires a little more of a journey, an evening (or even a day) out by the Leeds-Liverpool canal is one well spent. Pizza and pints is the name of the game at Belgrave (oh, and cocktails and burgers too). Easily walkable from the University at the top of town, Belgrave Music Hall is a great place for a post-uni chill-out, featuring a large rooftop garden and a top-notch rotation of DJs who lay down a cool blend of disco, house, jazz and dub throughout the week. With all pizza half-price before five (!), consider Belgrave the next time your seminar gets cancelled after you’ve already made the trip to uni. Hey, it’s five o’ clock somewhere, right?

The aptly named Sela (cellar) Bar at the top of town is a unique underground haunt with potent bang-for-your-buck cocktails, an intimate atmosphere lit by a handful of red bulbs, and an eclectic soundtrack comprising of memorable live music, eighties pop bangers and everything in between. Check it out whenever you fancy a change from the ol’ reliable pitchers from Terrace.
